Magpies To Swoop For Inler?

According to Saturday’s Daily Mirror, Kevin Keegan is planning a summer move for Udinese’s Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler.

The Newcastle manager is eager to add cover for Fenerbahce-bound Emre Belozoglu, and is reported by the paper as having seen Inler perform at Euro 2008. The 24-year-old has seemingly done enough to convince Keegan to pay Udiniese £4 million for his services.

Inler has spent only one season at Stadio Friuli, but wants to play in England’s top division, according to the Mirror. The midfielder had previously been at FC Zurich, and has won 15 caps for his national team.

The paper also reports that Newcastle are keeping s close eye on Per Ciljian Skjelbred of Rosenberg. The 21-year-old won a Norwegian X Factor style programme in 2004. He rejected the first prize on offer, which was a week on trial at Liverpool, in order to join his current club.

Toon To Bid £10m For Gomis - Report

Newcastle United are said to be preparing a £10 million bid for Saint Etienne and France striker Bafetembi Gomis...

Gomis, 22, was picked for the France squad ahead of Djibril Cisse and David Trezeguet due to his tremendous form for St Etienne. He marked his debut for les Bleus coming off the bench to score twice and secure a win in a warm-up game for Euro 2008.

Yesterday, he did not have a competitive debut to remember, being brought on late in the day to try and force a winner in a game that disappointingly ended goalless with Group C's bottom seeded side Romania.

However, his hulking presence and fairly prolific scoring rate has seen him compared to Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Adebayor, but weeks ago he declared that he would not go the same way as them and would prefer a move to Italy over England.

Last week he signed a contract extension with St Etienne, stating it was his priority to stay on with the club, though the new deal may have been made merely to boost his asking price, should a bigger club swoop for him after the Austria-Switzerland tournament this summer.

Newcastle are said to have tabled a bid for his services and it is thought that he would be a long-term replacement for the aging and injury prone Mark Viduka, functioning as the focal point of a three-pronged attack most likely including Obafemi Martins and Michael Owen.

Owner Mike Ashley has promised to bring in players that will excite the fans as manager Kevin Keegan looks to restore some pride on Tyneside.

Newcastle Land 'New Rooney'

Newcastle United are thought to have won the race for the signature of promising Plymouth striker Aaron Spear, who has been likened to Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney...

Newcastle director Dennis Wise (pictured) is said to have negotiated the deal for the 15-year-old, beating Arsenal, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur to the young forward.

Spear has been a regular for Plymouth's under-16s and was ready to play in the reserves last season, but was not yet 15 - the minimum age for player registration - at the time.

Now that the club battle appears to be over, there are also two countries fighting for Spear's loyalty. While he is primarily English, a Scottish grandmother could see him eligible for the Tartan Army, where he may be likely to get more exposure early on.

The Magpies are said to be paying £1 million for the player in total, with installments being paid based on number of appearances.

Zigic To Newcastle?

Valencia’s Nikola Zigic could be on his way to the Premier League with Newcastle United his agent has revealed.

The Serbian, 27, is currently plying his trade with Valencia in La Liga but may be on the move this summer, having barely made an impact in his debut season with the Spanish outfit during their miserable campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Milan Calasan, the striker’s agent, said: “Yes, Nikola would be interested in a move to Newcastle as he has always wanted to play in England.”

Any possible transfer to St James’s Park could involve a swap deal, with Spanish left back Jose Enrique moving the other way. However, it is believed that Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan would be reluctant to lose the defender.

Zigic joined Valencia last summer from Racing Santander in something for a coup for the Spanish side, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Fenerbahce, Werder Bremen and Manchester City.

However Valencia suffered a miserable season in La Liga which culminated in a tenth place finish and manager Ronald Koeman being replaced by Unai Emery.

The season was similarly disappointing for Zigic, who made only 14 appearances, scoring just once and it looks as though his days at the club may be numbered.

Portsmouth reportedly tried to sign the Serbian in the January transfer window but Zigic turned down the opportunity to join the FA Cup winners on a loan deal. However a move to the Premier League now looks likely as Valencia look to rebuild their side this summer.

Report: Toon To Swoop For Aimar

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Real Zaragoza and Argentina star Pablo Aimar, after the Spanish side suffered the shock of relegation to the Segunda Division this season...

Aimar, 28, is of a generation of Argentine players who had huge amounts of promise, but did not deliver as the world had expected. The switch from Valencia to Zaragoza was a relegation in itself - as was getting dropped from the national team - and things were to get a lot worse for the playmaker yet.

Since joining the club in 2006, things have only gotten worse, as he was infamously involved in a spat with team-mate and compatriot Andres D'Alessandro that resulted in both players being dropped. Though it was his nemesis who was sold on while he stayed at the club, he returned to the team just in time for their heartbreaking relegation; a sorrowful end to a season in which they were supposed to be challenging for Champions League qualification.

With a squad full of such quality, they will suffer several casualties over the summer as other clubs swoop for their stars, and Aimar will be top of many clubs' list. Panathanaikos and Lazio have already reportedly expressed an interest, though the player's agent has said he is happy to stay at the club.

Newcastle, of course, are after players who will excite the fans and add quality to their line-up and, providing he settles, Aimar could prove almost the perfect acquisition, particularly as he will surely be available at a cut-price, rumoured to be in the region of £6.5 million.

Liverpool were also said to be interested in the player during the January transfer window, with £10 million the quoted asking price for the player at the time. Whether they will renew their interest remains to be seen, but if Newcastle act quickly, they could land their man without too much of a fight.

Newcastle Table £9M Bid For Turan

Having been linked last month with Turkish star Arda Turan, Premier League side Newcastle United have reportedly firmed up their interest by lodging a £9million bid for the player - though his club, Galatasaray, are not confirming this.

Newcastle have been keeping close tabs on left-sided midfielder Arda Turan, and now appear to have opened serious negotiations with Galatasaray aimed at securing his signature.

The Magpies recently allowed popular Turkish star Emre to return to his homeland to join Fenerbahce, and with question-marks over the Tyneside futures of Damien Duff and Charles N'Zogbia, manager Kevin Keegan is thought to regard strengthening the left side of his midfield as a priority this summer.

Turan appears to be the player who fits the bill for Keegan, despite the reported £11millon asking price set by Galatasaray.

That would leave Newcastle's opening bid a couple of million short of the mark - but talks are vsaid to be ongoing, although publicly, Gala insist they want to keep Turan in Istanbul.

"There are stories about Arda Turan in the press. Arda Turan is our player and there is no transfer to any clubs," said a statement on their official website, and the player's agent, Ahmet Bulut, said he had not held talks with Newcastle or any other club.

"I don't know anything about what is happening with the two clubs," he told Skysports.com.

"If they are talking fine, but I don't know and I cannot talk with any club unless Galatasaray say that I can."

Reports indicate that two English clubs are chasing Deportivo la Coruna's £10m rated centre-back Fabricio Coloccini

The People reports that Manchester City and Newcastle United are battling it out to sign the 26-year-old former AC Milan defender.

The Magpies were said to have been interested in the player when Sam Allardyce was in charge, and it appears now that new boss Kevin Keegan wants to bring the commanding Argentine to the Premiership.

Collocini is 6′0″ tall and has appeared 105 times in La Liga for Deportivo, as well as amassing over 25 caps times for Argentina.

The news comes shortly after confirmation from Tyneside that Emre Bolozoglu has been sold to Turkish side Fenerbahce in a $5.5m deal.

It also spells doom for Czech Republic International David Rozehnal, a $2.7m signing from Paris-Saint-Germain, who was loaned out to Lazio last season by Magpies boss Kevin Keegan.

The Czech defender is currently on EURO 2008 duty, but with new blood coming through, it is expected that he will be sold once the transfer window reopens.

Spanish reports indicate that Newcastle United is ready to bid for promising striker Alvero Negredo...

Negredo, 22, was in splendid form for the Spanish club, netting 13 goals in 36 impressive appearances that saw Almeria propel to 8th in La Liga.

Newcastle United's Technical Coordinator Jeff Vetere, who had nurtured the youth in his Real Madrid days, is said to be manufacturing the move for the English club.

It is understood that Real Madrid have a £3m first option on the their locally born 22-year-old, with reports suggesting they are keen to exercise this, and then sell the player to Newcastle for a profit.

The Sun suggests that the fee could be in the region of £9.5m, and that Magpies boss Kevin Keegan is keen to wrap up the deal in the coming weeks.

However, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in Negredo, the Toon Army may have their work cut, considering they lost out to the Londoners in deals for defender Jonathan Woodgate, and Croat Luka Modric earlier this year.
